Newstead Brass are celebrating an unexpected accolade with
the news that they truly are amongst the best players in Nottinghamshire as the
Bonington Players production of ‘Brassed Off’ received the award for ‘Best All
Round Play’ at the annual NANDA (Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Drama
Association) award.
The Bonington players invited Newstead Brass to join them
for ‘Brassed Off’, their 50th Anniversary production, at Arnold’s Bonington
Theatre in January 2013 and played to full houses all week.
A band spokesman commented, “Fitting a brass band into the
available space provided some challenges, but these were ably overcome by the
cast and the band. Our congratulations
to the Bonington Players on this prestigious award. We had a great time working
with them and this is testament to their hard work, talent and generosity.”
Newstead brass next performance is a ‘Summer Proms’ charity
concert this Saturday, June 29th at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club starting at
7.00 pm. Proceeds will support the new
Cystic Fibrosis Unit at Nottingham’s City Hospital. Tickets cost £7.50 from Ian (01949 875135) or
John (01623 409686).
Newstead Brass ‘return to the boards’ for ‘Brassed Off’ with
the Mansfield Community Theatre group at the Palace Theatre from Thursday 4th
to Saturday 6th July (Box office 01623
