FREE Top Brass comes to Ripley

One of the world’s top brass bands comes to Ripley this Sunday when award winning Newstead Brass play as part of the annual 'Brass in the Park' series arranged by Ripley Town Council.

The concert takes place on the Crossley Park bandstand on Sunday June 9th from 2.30 pm to 4.30pm.  There is no charge for the concert, although listeners will have the chance to donate to the band’s funds.

A band spokesman commented, “This is a chance to hear one of the world’s finest brass bands on a traditional park bandstand.  Newstead recently finished in 7th place in the British Open Brass Band Championships Spring Festival, one of the world’s most competitive brass band contests and their musical ability is second to none.  The programme of music played will be wide ranging to provide something for everyone, whether you’re a regular concert goer or new to the sound of brass.  We’ll be including a musical tribute to the 70th anniversary of the Dambuster’s raid to which Ripley born (Sir) Barnes Wallis made such an important contribution.  Some seating is provided, but we’d recommend bringing a rug or deckchair if you can.”

The ‘Bands in Crossley Park’ season continues with performances by the Matlock (June 23rd), Blidworth (July 7th) and  Creswell Colliery (July 21st) bands.

Newstead Brass will also be playing at Ripley Park on Saturday evening, July 13th as part of the 2013 Ripley Music Festival.  The ‘Brass Spectacular’ will conclude with a Firework Finale to live musical accompaniment from Newstead brass.
